PARIS — Novaspace market research shows the dynamism of the satellite communications market in the Asia Pacific (APAC) region.

Service revenues in the Asia Pacific topped $21 billion in 2023. By 2024, there were 39 active satellite operators in the region representing at least 4.6 Tbps of capacity supply. This was met by 0.9 Tbps of capacity demand in 2023. Yet, the digital divide remains deep with more than 1.4 billion unconnected people in 2023.

Satellite IoT represents a massive opportunity for various sectors, including agriculture, industry, environmental monitoring and government. There were approximately 740,000 connected satellite IoT terminals in the APAC region in 2022 with more coming online each year.

Satellite direct-to-device (D2D) or satellite direct-to-phone connectivity is another potentially booming market projected to reach $6.34 billion in cumulative revenues between 2023 and 2032.

The Asia Pacific satcom market continues to thrive in more traditional areas as well, with approximately 27,000 satellite backhaul sites as of 2023 and 9,540 television channels distributed.
