SAN DIEGO, Sept. 26, 2011 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) — Kratos Defense & Security Solutions, Inc. (Nasdaq:KTOS), a leading National Security Solutions provider, announced today that its subsidiary, Gichner Systems Group, has been awarded a contract to provide specialized shelter and container products to Teledyne Brown Engineering for the Littoral Combat Ship (LCS). The custom engineered and designed products will be an integral part of Teledyne’s LCS Surface Warfare (SUW) Mission Modules. Work will be performed at Gichner’s Charleston Marine Containers Inc. (CMCI) facility in Charleston, SC.
The contract calls for twelve of Gichner’s specialized container products to be used on three LCS vessels, as each LCS SUW mission module requires four of these specialized products. These specialty and unique military specification products are specifically engineered and designed by Gichner to house and protect the mission critical 57 mm Mk 110 Naval Gun system. This product solution will provide for environmental protection, storage and transportation of the gun system.
Adding to another recent LCS Mission Module product order received by Gichner, this award positions the company as a major supplier of specialized and mission critical components, products and subassemblies for the U.S. Navy’s LCS program. The LCS design is a flexible ship platform that operates with various modular “plug-and-fight” mission packages including: Surface Warfare, Antisubmarine Warfare (ASW), and Mine Countermeasures (MCM) mission modules. The U.S. Navy currently intends to field a force of 55 Littoral Combat Ships.
