Design

The Mako is a derivative of the proven BQM-167A aerial target that the U.S. Air Force has used for years as a realistic threat emulator. This highly capable design utilizes a rocket-assisted launch and precision parachute recovery.

Speed

With an operational ceiling of 50,000 feet and a top speed of 0.91 Mach, the Mako’s sleek design provides the warfighter with an affordable, high-performance, multi-role weapon system.

Readiness

With its open mission system architecture and proven ability to integrate multiple payload options, the Mako is ready now to support single-ship, multi-ship, or manned-unmanned teaming operations.

Capacity

Large, configurable auxiliary bays provide up to 8.5 cubic feet of internal payload volume. External hardpoints at the mid-wing and wing-tip locations allow for additional mission flexibility.

The Mako

The Kratos Unmanned Tactical Aerial Platform (UTAP-22) Mako provides the warfighter with an affordable, fighter-like unmanned aircraft capable of untethered or collaborative operations with manned assets in contested environments.

The Kratos Mako approach allows flexibility in command and control architecture, ample payload capacity, and flexible vehicle signatures in a low-cost system. Utilizing a minimal footprint rocket-assisted takeoff (RATO) and precision parachute recovery, the Kratos Mako can operate in austere locations without a runway.

This tactical drone was unveiled in 2016 during a swarm demonstration at a U.S. Navy test range featuring two Makos in contested operations.

The UTAP-22 tactical unmanned aircraft was officially named Mako by Kratos in May 2017.

The system uses rocket-assisted launch, ensuring a minimal footprint and a precision parachute recovery method.
